CONSIDERATION OF FILLING VACANCY ON THE COMMUNITY SAFETY AND WELFARE COMMITTEE
body

Summary:
At its June 2, 2026 meeting, the City Council conducted interviews to fill vacancies on the City's Commissions and Committees. During the course of the interviews, the City Council appointed three individuals to serve on the Community Safety and Welfare Committee for two-year terms. Following those appointments, one vacancy remained on the seven-member Committee.

Background:
The Community Safety and Welfare Committee consists of seven members appointed by the City Council. The City Council prioritizes at least four voting members of the Committee to be technical professionals with backgrounds in public safety and the remaining three voting members to be appointed at-large. The Community Safety and Welfare Committee acts in an advisory capacity to the City Council in all matters pertaining to public safety, human needs and public affairs as identified by the City Council.

In a follow-up discussion at its June 16, 2026, the City Council requested that consideration of appointing a Community Safety and Welfare Committee member be agendized for the August 4, 2026 City Council meeting and identified two candidates for consideration: Michael Greenwald and Chris Brown.

Discussion:
The City Council is now being asked to appoint one of these candidates to fill the remaining seat on the Community Safety and Welfare Committee for a two-year term.

Alternatively, the City Council could choose to not fill the vacancy at this time, or direct Staff to advertise for the vacancy and accept applications for additional candidates.

Council Options:
* Appoint Chris Brown or Michael Greenwald to fill the vacancy on the Community Safety and Welfare Committee.

* Direct staff to advertise for the vacancy and accept applications for additional candidates for the Community Safety and Welfare Committee.
